Overview South Bristol is a town in southern Ontario County, bordered to the north by Bristol, to the east by Canandaigua Lake (and beyond that, the town of Middlesex in Yates County), to the south by Naples, and to the west by Richmond. South Bristol is best known as the home of Bristol Mountain Ski Resort, which attracts visitors from throughout the Greater Rochester area and is perhaps the most popular ski resort in the area. South Bristol is full of wide-open space; with only about 1,600 residents, South Bristol is the least-populated town in the county. There are few businesses here, but there is a winery and a golf course. The main attraction here is the great outdoors, like at Stid Hill Wildlife Management Area and at Ontario County Park and the Cumming Nature Center in neighboring Naples. This is beautiful country, particularly during fall-foliage time. Local Museums/Landmarks The best-known place in South Bristol is Bristol Mountain Ski Resort. The South Bristol Historical Society meets in the Grange Hall on Route 64, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Wilder Cemetery also is on the National Register.

Essentials For shopping, the charming town of Naples is only about 9 miles south, with a good part of the drive offering spectacular views of the southern end of Canandaigua Lake. Naples has a small grocery store and other shops. For a wider variety of shopping, and for larger stores, it’s only 17 miles northeast to Canandaigua, which has supermarkets like Wegmans and Tops Friendly Markets and retail stores like Walmart.. anandaigua’s historic Main Street also is lined with smaller stores and restaurants. South Bristol doesn’t have its own public library, but Bristol (to the north) and Naples (to the south) both do. The closest hospital is F.F. Thompson in Canandaigua. The Naples Central School District serves the area and has one elementary school and a junior-senior high school.

The place offers popular “sky rides” during the fall foliage season. Wineries and grape-growing are big in this area. Neighboring Naples is known as an artist community, and the town hosts the busy Naples Grape Festival in the fall. Naples also is home to the Cumming Nature Center, which is overseen by the Rochester Museum & Science Center. Canandaigua has a wider variety of entertainment options, like a movie multiplex, a waterpark and historic sites.
