Overview

Geneva is a town in the southeastern corner of Ontario County, bordered to the north by Phelps; to the east by Seneca County (town of Waterloo); to the south by Yates County (town of Benton); and to the west by the town of Seneca. The town of Geneva also includes the city of Geneva, one of only two cities in Ontario County (the other is Canandaigua).


Essentials

For grocery shopping, Geneva has a Wegmans supermarket at 300 Hamilton St. and a Tops Friendly Markets store at 381 Hamilton St. For retail shopping, Geneva has a vibrant downtown area with smaller stores and a few national chains, as well as a Walmart Supercenter on Routes 5 & 20 store and a Peebles at 333 Hamilton St..



Recreation & Entertainment

The big attractions here are Seneca Lake and the wine industry. Seneca Lake State Park is on the lakeshore in the northern part of town. Boating, swimming, and fishing are huge here, and Geneva bills itself as “the Lake Trout Capital of the World.” Route 14 is known as the Seneca Lake Wine Trail.



Transportation & Traffic

The New York State Thruway has an exit/entrance for Geneva that’s a few miles from the city. Routes 5 & 20 is a busy, well-travelled, fun-to-drive east-west thoroughfare. Route 14 is the main north-south highway.



Pros & Cons

Geneva is the smallest town in Ontario County by geography, but one of the most interesting. Seneca Lake and the wine trail are huge draws, as well as Hobart and William Smith College. The downtown shopping district is vibrant, and there’s quite a bit of history and architectural masterpieces here.
