Geneva is on the western shore of Seneca Lake, part of the popular Finger Lakes region, and fishing, boating and other water activities are popular here. The city calls itself “The Lake Trout Capital of the World.” The downtown area has been spruced up recently, and hotels have sprung up near the lake. Along Route 14, which offers breathtaking views of the lake, you’ll find stately structures and popular attractions like Belhurst Castle and Geneva on the Lake. Agri-tourism is huge here: Route 14 is known as the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, and there are dozens of wineries in the Geneva area and just south along the lakefront. Routes 5 & 20, which pass through Geneva, is a lovely road for a drive that takes you past plenty of roadside attractions, small shops and eateries. Hobart and William Smith College is in Geneva, and Finger Lakes Community College has a campus here. Geneva also is known for the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station run by Cornell University.

Local Museums/Landmarks
The Geneva Historical Society operates several buildings in Geneva, including Rose Hill Mansion, Prouty-Chew House, Balmano Cottage and the Drain Tile Museum. The Smith Opera House, which is more than 100 years old, offers concerts, movies and other events. Several architecturally stunning buildings can be found on Route 14 overlooking Seneca Lake. Belhurst Castle is a former private residence which offers fine dining, overnight accommodations and a spa and salon. Geneva on the Lake bills itself as a “wine country villa and resort.”
